Easily Overwhelmed

coconutdreamin:

I feel bad about pictures I wanted to take but never did. I still see them in my mind and am haunted the opportunity has passed. Yet at the same time I feel overwhelmed with all the images I have taken in the last six months. How is this? I am currently seeking outlets outside of the Internet world. I want to share more of my writing and images but fear, Fucking Fear, has crippled me.

This.

A little teaser from todays shoot. Was able to knock out one more in my Abandon series. Four more too go and it will be done. This broken down bus just looked to good and I had to snap a quick shot of Rachel in front of it before we left. Big thanks to my man Dre Eastwood and Eryn for helping out today.

This couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Listened through twice. Love the new direction even if it took time to grow on me

Work hard kids. Dreams do come true. Third look of the day with a few more to go and it’s cold as balls out.

"Go ahead Yul Brenner. You go get your palace"

Cool Runnings is a great movie. All comedy aside this scene has stuck with me since I started photography. How Yul feels is exactly how I feel about my photography and my current situation in Fredericksburg. So many people here are content with just living the pay check to pay check life and drinking their days away. There is nothing wrong with that and to each his own, but for me I have always wanted more. I know so many people who gave up on their dreams because of the amount of work and sacrifice it takes to make a dream reality. Not only that, but a lot of patience, long nights, and days wondering if you can even keep going. I know I go through this on a regular basis. Every now and then I get scared that all this time is going to be for nothing. Everything I am doing is just one giant dream that I am wasting my time on. I would be much better off getting a “safe” job and getting that check every two weeks and my one week paid vacation a year. To me that is why so many people end up feeling unfulfilled in their old age. They played it safe instead of taking that chance to grab what they wanted. The people I look up to now are all people who essentially started where I am or with less. They were the ones who put the time and effort into their craft. I know a lot of photographers who get more work than I do simply because they are willing to do what everyone else is doing. In Fredericksburg it’s all about fashion photography and ripping off people like Helmut Newton. It is all the same pictures of girls in contorted poses. Don’t get me wrong some of it is really good work, but it always seems to be missing something. It always seems to be missing a purpose. You may ask well how else can you shoot fashion photography? That’s essentially what it is, but I know people who photograph women and  men in that sense and make beautiful thought provoking photographs (Have you seen Corwin Prescott’s work?) I like to think there are two lanes to this whole photography thing. You can take the fast track of copying everyone else and doing what everyone else is doing and what the people who are immediately around you are going to love and praise you for and soak that up. I don’t want to just be content there. I would rather take my time and really develop my skill and style. I don’t want to be a photography that a company calls on because I can “do the basics”. I want to be the photographer that is sought out for my own vision. So as much as it bums me out sometimes that I see some photographers I know who are shooting for the wrong reasons (ie. to meet/hit on girls or become a local celebrity) I always try to remind myself about this scene. Although Yul’s dream is completely ridiculous his determination is so strong and his will is unflinching. That is how I want to be on this journey. He wants to prove everyone wrong and show them that he will one day realize his dream and he does not care how hard he has to work to get there. There are always going to be people like Sanka who are going to try to pull you back and talk you down. I have learned that those people are the ones who are either not willing, too scared/lazy, or jealous about seeing someone working hard for what they want and it makes them look at themselves. So to make themselves feel better they have to try to drag you down to the bottom. The thing is to not listen to those people and to remember why you started it all in the first place.

No one is going to stop me from getting my palace. No matter how long it takes.
